Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, OFR
Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, OFR was the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission Nigeria from 2010 to June 2015, during which he presided over the conduct of two successful and widely acclaimed general elections. He written extensively on Nigerian politics, elections and democracy.
He is a former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, where he currently serves as a professor of political science. He also serves as a member of the Kofi Annan Foundation’s Electoral Integrity Initiative, the Nigerian Tertiary Education Fund’s (TETFUND) Research and Development Standing Committee (RDSC), the Board of the International Federation of Electoral Systems (IFES) and the International Advisory Council of Afrobarometer.
Professor Jega holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Bayero University and a doctorate from Northwestern University, Illinois.
